Khan's, Matheran by Shree
Well, Matheran's a pretty out of this world kind of place...no motorised vehicles allowed, only..... believe it or not ! HORSES ! it sits atop a mountain 2000 feet above sea level, and is my favorite hill station in India.. i have been visiting Matheran almost every alternate year, but when i went there last week, i came across this fantastic restaurant called Khan's, which specialises not only in Indian food, but also Chinese and other world cuisine. The first thing that hits you about this place is the sound of buddha bar music in the air, even if you are at a little distance away from it. Wait, i don't mean to say they play it loud here, but the fact that you are at a place where the town sleeps early and too many eating out places, none so enticing thats sets it apart from the rest... I noticed that all the city yuppies from Mumbai were here, little did i realise that i was most than a 100 kms away from Mumbai! Khan's has flavored hookas in 9 different flavors, and a menu spanning 3 continents (phew)... the service is courteous and the food is amazing! Not to mention, this place also has a bed n breakfast facility, so you can simply have the bill tabbed to your room bill. They also accept credit and debit cards, so all you need to carry there is an empty stomach, hehe. (just for the record, i am not affiliated to this establishment, nor am i being paid for writing this piece.. just want to share this wonderful dining experience. Well, the hookas are better than the ones i've had in bombay, and pretty cheap as well (3 USD). the starters are lip-smacking, and each serving of the main course is enough to feed two. |
